ValloCycle is happy to announce our latest contribution to the Montevallo cycling community. The Public Work Bicycle Stand, located on the Main Street side of University of Montevallo on Main (UMOM) was purchased and installed with a UM Green Fund Grant!
Here are some of the tools that are available for use at this excellent work stand:
  • Bike Pump – easily the most recognizable piece of equipment, this pump can handle Schrader and Presta valves. Schrader valve – low pressure valve used on car tires. Presta valve – high pressure valve (also known as the French valve). Most recreational bikes have a Schrader valve.
  • Tire Levers – these tools are used to remove and mount your bike tire off and on the rim. This simple piece of technology that is nearly essential to completing this basic maintenance task.
  • Pedal Wrench – the flats of your standard bicycle pedal are a narrow 15mm, a space most standard wrenches have difficulty navigating. Your right pedal tightens clockwise (most standard threads - righty tighty, lefty loosey), while your left pedal has reverse threads that tighten counter-clockwise.
  • Bicycle Work Stand – most of you who have worked on your bicycle will flip it over on the seat and handlebars or lean it against a wall for maintenance. The structure these tools are attached to is designed to hang your bike from! Once you begin to use a maintenance stand to elevate your bicycle, you can appreciate the benefits to having your steed at eye height.
ValloCycle is committed to creating and supporting a biking community in Montevallo. Join us on our next Glow Ride – an evening ride through Montevallo. Next ride is August 9th - meet 6:30pm in front of UMOM, ride 7pm. ValloCycle is Alabama’s oldest citywide bike share. For more information visit vallocycle.com or contact [email protected]
